The Japan Institute was founded by a small group of senior Japanese and Western Budoka to promote genuine Japanese Budo in it's many forms.

The Institute works hard to be a preserve of good Budo trying to ensure that authentic martial systems are studied in the right way with the right spirit. The institute is non denominational and works with all styles Budo

However, it's recognised by the board of directors that preserving and promoting Budo is to keep it alive, growing and developing. The Institute is not an historical re-enactment society.
